Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only astronomical object known to harbour and support % of Earth's surface is land consisting of continents and islands. The remaining % is covered with water, mostly by oceans, seas, gulfs, and other salt-water bodies, but also by lakes, rivers, and other freshwater, which together constitute the hydrosphere.

One way, caused by tidal friction, produces an extremely slow secular change in rotation. The other way, caused by the continual movements of the tides about the planet, produces very small but very rapid changes in rotation.

These rapid changes occur at exactly the same periods. Some factors influence tides called tidal constituents. They are the rotation of the Earth, the position of the moon and the sun to our planet, and the shape of the shore and the seabed.

Thus, the duration of the tides and their amplitude depend on these components and can last hours. Earth tides, precession-nutation and the secular retardation of earths rotation.

Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 1 (4),doi: (68). Tides result from the pull of gravity; on the earth alone, between the earth and moon and between the earth and the sun. The gravitational pull of the sun on the earth is about times stronger than the gravitational pull on the earth from the moon.

However, because of the close proximity of the moon, when compared to the sun, the tidal pull by the moon is over twice that of the sun.

Lots of planets in our solar system have moons. It is worth noting our Earths moon is compared to our planet quite large. Jupiter is by far the largest planet and it has lots of moons. Jupiter has 53 named moons and another 26 awaiting official n.
